As a part of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019, the Department of Health and Family Welfare organized a seminar focusing on Medical and Pharma Services in the state on 19th January, 2019 at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar. The seminar was titled ‘Shaping a New Paradigm in Medical and Pharma Services’.
The objective of the seminar was to know the current scenario of the industry and to explore opportunities of growth and development in the industry. In the light of the world’s first tele-robotic coronary intervention surgery taking place in Ahmedabad, the government is aiming towards making Gujarat a hub for medical tourism. The government is also making efforts to provide excellent medical infrastructure and highly skilled doctors that are available in the Western Countries, but at a remarkably low cost that would be affordable by each and every resident of the state.
The department also organized several field visits for delegates from Africa to the hospitals and pharmaceutical manufacturing units of the state.Over 50 delegates from Africa will engage in B2B and B2G meetings with their counterparts from the healthcare industry.
Shri Ashwini Kumar Chaubey, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare from the Central Government talked about the successful model of cooperative federalism that has been effective in implementation of a number of progressive policies of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He said that India has emerged as an effective player on the global front under PM Modi and while the world looks at India, India looks at Gujarat as a model of development. Prime Minister Shri Modi realized the need to take care of more than 40 per cent poor people through the flagship scheme PMJAY. The Central government has planned to make more than 1.5 lakh wellness centres by 2022.
Praising the CM and Deputy CM for successfully continuing the legacy of Vibrant Gujarat Summits, Shri Chaubey concluded by appealing to the Indian diaspora to invest in the health sector across the length and breadth of the country.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Nitin Patel proudly said that Gujarat has been the number one state in implementing the PMJAY and as many as 2700 hospitals in the state have registered under the same. He added that MoUs worth more than Rs 7 lakh crore have been signed on the first day of
the summit. He invited medical and pharmaceutical experts from various sectors to invest in Gujarat and India because of the flagship program PMJAY, which will make the health sector the largest emerging sector in the country.
Talking about the progressive health policies of the state government under the dynamic leadership of CM Shri Rupani and Depy CM Shri Nitin Patel, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Health from the state government stressed on working together by making use of the Vibrant Gujarat forum to find innovative ways by using cost effective methods for building an ‘Ayushman Bharat’ and ‘Ayushman Gujarat.’
Smt. Preeti Sudan, Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India addressed the audience present in the seminar and said the government aims at attaining the highest possible level of health and well-being for all ages. She added that the objective was to provide good quality healthcare services to one and all at affordable prices. Talking about the progressive health initiatives of the Central government, she said that India is the only country in South East Asia to have the HIV and AIDS (PREVENTION and control ) ACT, 2017. The central government has planned to eliminate TB by 2025.
Earlier, Shri P.K Parmar, Additional Chief Secretary - Health and Family Welfare Dept. in his welcome address talked about the need to stress on world class health facilities. He said that the increase in life expectancy calls for better health facilities. The government has used $22 billion for reimbursing medical bills of private hospitals. Gujarat is the pharmaceutical centre of the country and as many as 499 Jan Aushadhi stores have been opened across the state for cost effective medicines.
The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Gujarat also set up special pavilions at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Showto display the Union Government’s Ayushman Bharat and Indradhanush Immunization program.
Under the aegis of Vibrant Gujarat 2019, as many as 273 MoUs have been signed in the Pharma sector so far with a proposed investment of Rs 8223.21 crore and projected employment for 18,915 people. There are 32 big ticket MoUs with a proposed investment of Rs 6531 .4 crore and projected employment for 10, 630 people. During the seminar, a total of 11 MoUs were signed in the Health and Pharma Sector.
