Gujarat Government announced that an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will be established near Rajkot. The Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana under the Union Ministry of Health informed the Gujarat Health Department on Wednesday evening that an AIIMS has been allocated to Rajkot. The Union government would spend around Rs 1,200 crore to set up the AIIMS which will include a medical college, a state-of-the-art hospital with around 1,000 beds and a research institute, Patel said.
Dy CM Nitin Patel thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ‘this gift to Gujarat’. Patel added the state government would give 120 acre land free-of-cost for the 800-1,000 bed AIIMS to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 1,200 crore. “The Ministry of Health has conveyed it that the Centre has decided to set up AIIMS at Khandheri village near Rajkot city. We have already identified land which will be given free,” Patel told reporters in Gandhinagar. After assuming office in 2014, Narendra Modi had announced that Gujarat will get an AIIMS, as the previous Congress-led government never gave a thought to it. We thank our PM for giving an AIIMS to Gujarat.”
At present, patients having critical illness have to rush Ahmedabad for super speciality treatments. The districts which will be benefited the most include Rajkot, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Surendranagar, Bhavnagar, Porbandar, Amreli, Botad, Morbi, Dwarka, Gir-Somnath and Kutch.
Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Rupani inaugurated the Property Expo and Showcase – 2018 organized by CREDIA-RBA and D- SAURASHTRA CHAPTER at Racecourse ground in Rajkot. Speaking on the occasion, the CM thanked Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi for approving to set up the state’s first All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) at Rajkot. He added that it was the dream of Prime Minister Mr. Modi to ensure that Gujarat does not only compete with developed states but with some of the leading developed countries. The state government is working in a dedicated manner towards helping realize the same. The CM also announced that the state government will allocate land for constructing a Convention Centre.
He further added that the Property Expo and Showcase 2018 will provide with an opportunity to Rajkot for ensuring a compact and well planned development along with modern infrastructure and facilities for people. The state government will start to work in a phase wise manner to develop infrastructure for Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Gandhinagar and Dahod which are on the path of becoming smart cities. There will be more than 200 projects, more than 60 brands in addition to more than 150 interior products which will be exhibited at the Expo from 4th to 7th January, 2019. Collector Dr. Rahul Gupta, Municipal Commissioner Mr. Banchhanidhi Pani, Police Commissioner Mr. Manoj Agrawal and various other dignitaries and a large number of exhibitors were present during the event.
