Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit to position Gujarat a hub for ‘Medical Tourism’ & Pharma R & D

Under the aegis of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat is organising a special seminar on Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals on the 19th on January afternoon at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Titled ‘Shaping a New Paradigm in Medical & Pharma Services’, the seminar aims to take stock of the present industry scenario; explore opportunities and discuss navigation through the inevitable paradigm shift that is taking place in the healthcare sector. The aim is to arrive at actionable policy interventions that medical and pharmaceutical service providers can take for greater social impact. The healthcare sector is going through functional and structural changes and there is scope of further improvement in existing medical services through innovation and technology.

Speaking to the media at a press meet in Gandhinagar, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Govt. of Gujarat, Shri Punamchand Parmar said, “Health is crucial for sustainable development, both as an inalienable human right and an essential contributor to the economic growth of society. Although, life expectancy has increased substantially, there are still challenges related to quality of life and the Government of Gujarat is committed to provide effective and quality healthcare at a reasonable cost to all citizens.”

Shri J. P. Nadda, the Hon'ble Union Minister of Health, Government of India will be the ‘Keynote Speaker’ at the seminar and more than 500 leaders from the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry are expected at the seminar.

The seminar will also aim to position Gujarat as a hub for ‘Medical Tourism, given the availability of excellent medical infrastructure and highly skilled doctors that are at par with Western Countries providing world-class medical care at much lower cost. Gujarat is also a leader in the pharmaceutical sector and currently holds more than a third of the national share in pharmaceutical production over the last two decades. Gujarat based companies are currently in the process of scaling up their Research & Development operations to tap the huge potential of therapeutic categories and grabbing the opportunities to lead as a global player.

As the 19th of January will also be the ‘Africa Day’ at Vibrant Gujarat 2019, the Health & FW Department will be organizing several round table meetings and field visits for delegates from Africa to hospitals and pharmaceutical manufacturing units. Apart from that, delegates from abroad and India will engage in B2B and B2G meetings with their counterparts from the healthcare industry during Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2019.

Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat is also coordinating special pavilion at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show. In addition to major hospitals and leading pharmaceutical companies of Gujarat, showcasing will be done for various healthcare related Government initiatives including Ayushman Bharat during the Global Trade Show from 18 to 22 January, 2019.

The seminar’s keynote address will be followed by a panel discussion. Other speakers at the seminar include, Prof. Balram Bhargava, Secretary Department of Health Research & DG Indian Council of Medical Research, Govt. of India, Dr. Indu Bhushan, CEO of Ayushman Bharat (NHPM-NHA), Dr. Yasmin Ali Haque, UNICEF Representative in India, Dr. Letitia Robinson, Director U.S. FDA India Office and Dr. Vikram Shah, CMD, Shalby Ltd., Dr Preetha Reddy, Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospital Enterprise Ltd., Mr Dharemesh Shah, CMD BDR Pharmaceuticals Internationals Pvt. Ltd., Dr Tejas Patel, Chairman and Chief Interventional Cardiologist, Apex Heart Institute Ahmedabad.
