Soon we can see generic drugs being stocked in separate racks in Medical Stores. Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has issued a letter to all State drug controllers to ensure that private retail chemist shops have separate shelves or racks to make generic medicines available. The matter was under deliberation with the Drug Consultative Committee and Drug Technical Advisory Board for some time now. “It has been decided that every retail outlet should provide a separate shelf/rack reserved exclusively for stocking generic medicines in the licensed premises separated from other medicines, which shall be visible to the consumers,” said S Eswara Reddy, Drugs Controller General of India.
