Emphasis on Quality Education with international approach in GTU convocation


7th Convocation Gujarat Technological University (GTU) was held on 12th January, 2018 at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar. In this Convocation 4363 students received their degree in presentia from different counters. Totally 50405 students are receiving their undergraduate, post graduate or doctorate degrees after passing out at Summer 2017 Examinations. Also, 19302 students are receiving their diploma after passing out at Summer 2017 Examinations.

During this Convocation 136 students received gold medal for securing maximum external theory marks’ percentage in various courses of study and 62 students received gold medal for securing maximum CGPA/ CPI in various courses of study. Also 43 students received their degree of Doctorate in Philosophy (Ph.D.) at this convocation.

Prof. (Dr) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor of GTU and BoA Member of Accuprec Research Labs presented the Annual Report & said that today is 12th January Swami Vivekanand birthday and is celebrated as National youth day in India. Swami Vivekanand an Inspiration for all youth. GTU innovation council this year established 3 regional centers at Surat, Vadodara & Rajkot with the active support from Director of Technical Education Niralaji & Education Department. Training of IPR and Start up to be given at these new centres. Two Schools are established by GTU in this year Graduate school of Engineering, Graduate school of pharmacy approve by AICTE. This year Government agreed to allot 100 Acre Land to GTU at Lekawada and the order for same will be issued by GOG in due course.

Shri O.P.Kohli, Hon’ble Governor of Gujarat, presided over the 7th Convocation ceremony. He said our country needs highly skilled and professionally educated individuals to raise the standard of India to become a Super Power in upcoming decade. In this era of Globalization, the importance of “Quality Education with international approach” is undeniable. Today the entire world is making efforts to transform the economy into a ‘knowledge based economy’.

Shri Vijaybhai Rupani, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Gujarat, was the Chief Guest at the 7th Convocation. He said that students should also not forget ethics besides education. You can make progress with combination of both of these. To remove poverty and unemployment we have to use technology more and more. At a time when you got opportunity to become a technocrat, I hope you will strive for creating new India. Government of Gujarat is doing a lot in the direction. In coming days Prime Minister of Israel is visiting Ahmedabad for inauguration of icreate, our students should think about how start up and research can be useful to society.

Dr. M. P. Poonia , Vice Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi was the Guest of Honour at this ceremony. He said that AICTE is willing to start Quality Improvement Program (QIP) Centre for PhD students at GTU. Funding to be provided for Faculty Development Programmes & Rural Start-up projects of students. At AICTE we are remembering Gujarat once or twice, but name of GTU appears in our talk at least once in a day. He explained the importance of teamwork in life and said that you can progress with the help of dedication. He told faculty members that country’s future depends on you. What you will teach to students, country will be benefitted. Only you can strengthen the balance-sheet of students. He advised parents not to pressurize the students but take care more. He advised the students to respect parents and teachers.

On this occasion, Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, hon. Minister of Education, Ms. Anju Sharma, Principal Secretary (Higher Education) & Commissioner Mr. B.K. Upadhyay were present. Dr. Shailesh Panchal, I/c Registrar of GTU welcomed all. Dr. Rajesh Parikh, Director presented Vote of Thanks.
