World class Food Research Laboratory inaugurated at Gandhinagar


Gujarat Chief Minister Mr.Vijaybhai Rupani inaugurated a Food Research Laboratory in Gandhinagar to ensure that the grains and other edible food items are of the highest quality under the Public Distribution System. The Food Research Laboratory has been built at a cost of Rs.1 crore by the State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited and Forensic Science Laboratory.

Mr. Rupani showed immense confidence in the fact that the laboratory will be equipped with state of the art facilities and continue to remain the same. ‘The novel initiative by the state in the form of a Food Research Laboratory has raised curiosity across the nation and the world’, the Chief Minister added.

He said that it has been the government’s aim to provide quality grains, pulses, oil and other food items using standardized tests in the laboratory to 3.84 crore beneficiaries in more than 17,000 fair price shops across the state and 39 lakh children of 33,000 mid-day meal centres along with an approximate of 65 lakh children in 53 thousand Anganwadi centres.

The CM also expressed a Zero tolerance towards low quality grains and showed faith that the laboratory will become a leading example and a medium to eliminate the distribution of low quality food items, grains and pulses to the needy.

It is to be noted here that an MoU for a period of 10 years has been signed between Gujarat State Civil Supplies Corporation and Directorate of Forensic Science for developing this state of the art Food Research Laboratory.
