Dr. Manish A. Rachchh, Director (R & D) and CEO of Accuprec Research Labs presented interesting analysis about Global innovation index (GII) of different countries and status of India in innovation. He said that more patents must be filed through Industry-academia linkage to improve GII.
He was speaking at National Food & Pharma Summit 2017 organised by elets. He said that India's declines in GII was improved little bit as per latest report published in the year 2016 by GII. Last year India stood on 66th position, which is 15 positions up from 81st position of the year 2015. India had its dismal performance on GII from 56th rank in 2010, 62nd rank in 2011, 64th in 2012, and 66th in 2013, and 76th in 2014. He suggested students can contribute in India’s GII by protecting their innovative ideas by filling patent and other forms of IPR.
He gave insight of the sector and described why innovation is need of the hour in Pharma industry. He said that at a time when India pharma sector is 3rd in world level in manufacturing, while in terms of value the rank is 13th. On the innovation front we are far behind, which can be seen from GII. If we want to improve GII, we should file more and more patents. This is possible through strengthening of Industry-academia Linkage. He gave example of hos Silicon valley was created with the support of stanford university.
