Ministry of AYUSH has set-up four autonomous Research Councils, namely, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) and Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) as apex bodies for formulation and development of traditional medicine for various diseases.
CCRAS has developed three formulations/ medicines and commercialized through National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), New Delhi as described below:
i. AYUSH-64 for Malaria.
ii. AYUSH-82 for Diabetes mellitus
iii. AYUSH-SG for Arthritis
Various Homoeopathic medicines for various diseases including high blood pressure and diabetes duly supported by clinical researches by CCRH are also available in the market. These are Sygizium Jambolanum, Cephalendra indica, Rhus aromaticus, Lycopodium, Rauvolfia serpentine, glonoine, glesemium, Allium sativa, Bryonia alba, Nux vomica, Rauwolfia serpentina and Strophanthus Abroma augusta, and Gymnema sylvestre.
In addition to this, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) also conducts research for development of herbal drugs/ formulations. They have recently developed a drug named BGR-34 for diabetes.
