Pharma exports from Gujarat grow exponentially

Pharma exports have crossed the US$ 3 billion mark from the state of Gujarat in the span of the last ten years.

Gujarat features among the top pharmaceutical manufacturing hubs in India with around 35 per cent share in national production and 28 per cent of pharmaceutical exports. The state has seen a six times increase in the growth of pharma exports in the last ten years.

Pharma exports have increased from US$ 562 million in 2006 to US$ 3 billion in 2016. The state is home to more than 3300 pharma manufacturing units, of which 255 are certified by WHO.3 units are certified by Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency certified by the UK Government and 15 EU certified units. The state also has 100 bulk drug manufacturing units and 135 licensed medical devices manufacturers.
